FRENCH QUARTER DIP
From: Betsy
Serves: 8 • Prep: 10 min • Cook: 5 min

A classic Southern (New Orleans-style) recipe — a cream cheese disk topped with a warm pecan, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce served on crackers. From a recipe clipping kept with the family papers.

INGREDIENTS
----------------------------------------
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 Tbsp grated onion
1 tsp minced garlic
¼ cup butter, cubed
¼ cup packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp prepared mustard
1 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted
Assorted crackers, to serve

INSTRUCTIONS
----------------------------------------
1. In a small bowl, combine the cream cheese, onion, and garlic. Transfer to a serving plate; shape into a 6-inch disk. Set aside.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Cook and stir over medium heat for 4–5 minutes, or until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Remove from heat; stir in the pecans. Cool slightly.
4. Spoon the pecan mixture over the cheese disk.
5. Serve with crackers.
